Playing sports is a lot of fun. It can help you meet new people and stay healthy and active. But let’s face it, starting a new sport can be intimidating and difficult.

If you’re eyeing to play disc golf, in this post we’re going to share our pro tips that can get you started participating in this sport and prevent you from throwing your discs all over the place.

Let’s go through the 6 TIPS that will take your game to the next level.

    CHOOSE THE RIGHT DISC

Choosing the right disc is number one on the list. If you’re a beginner, don’t get caught up in the numbers (flight ratings) written on the disc and think that the higher the numbers the better. Because that’s not the case for new players since higher-speed discs require more power to throw and are more difficult to snap. Start with slower discs and slowly move up to higher-speed discs. This will help you learn a good form. Read more about why beginners should choose a slower disc here.

    PUTT, PUTT, PUTT

Practice putting. If you have a yard, buying or making your practice basket always serves as an excellent way to perfect your putting and approach. Develop a routine and work through it on every single putt. Practice like you play. Don’t grab a stack of discs and start shooting them machine gun style.

    SLOW DOWN

Make sure you don’t do it all fast. Since you’re a new player, most probably your form and technique are bad, and throwing by using quick motions can do more harm than good. It often results in inaccuracy and sometimes injury.

    LEARN GREAT TECHNIQUE

Technique is one of the most important aspects of disc golf. You’ll know immediately when you do something right because it feels right and your disc flies pretty. Once you’ve realized that great technique’s the right path to distance, your game will improve dramatically. Try watching videos of professional players and go practice them.

    BE PATIENT AND STAY POSITIVE

Every now and then, you’ll feel like throwing your discs away for a while. But don’t give up. Just keep going! When you get frustrated, remember that you’re here to have fun. Be patient with yourself and focus on the positive. Remember that mental game plays a big part and frustration can be a blocker too.

    KNOW THE RULES AND ETIQUETTE

Just like other sports, disc golf has its own rules (written and unwritten) and knowing them makes the game more enjoyable. Whether you just want to play disc golf with your family and friends or to take the game more seriously by playing in organized leagues and tournaments, knowing the rules and etiquette of this sport is a must!
